Inspiration starts in the classroom, which is why UK Atomic Energy Authority and the Ogden Trust welcomed 27 teachers from across the country to Oxfordshire recently for the first of a new series of Fusion Teacher Conferences. Sessions included introductions to fusion science and technology, ideas for introducing fusion into classroom programmes, and a special behind-the-scenes tour of Culham Campus, where UKAEA and its giant fusion machines are based.
Increasing engagement with teachers and schools is a key priority for UKAEA as they strive to highlight the vast array of career opportunities within the fusion sector. By showcasing these exciting pathways to a wide and diverse audience of future scientists, engineers, project managers, technicians, and other professionals, they aim to inspire the next generation of talent for this pioneering industry.
A big part of spreading the word about work in the fusion sector is, of course, video! This was why UKAEA approached Unexplored Films and asked for a fun highlights film that captured the amazing 3 days on offer to the teachers: a chance to network, enjoy food and drink, build knowledge, swap ideas and generally be inspired by beautiful surroundings (The Swan at Streatley) and fusion knowledge. The event was a huge success and as the result the waiting list for the next one filled up immediately.
