The Technical Education Networks programme supports teachers to deliver an engaging and enriched curriculum for their students in an evolving education landscape. The programme draws on the expertise of specialist teachers, employers and professional bodies. With insight from these groups they develop free teaching resources, commission research and host events to support subject-specific pedagogy and sharing of practice.
The TEN network approached us to make a series of films to better explain topics within their strands of Agriculture, Construction, Digital, Engineering & Manufacturing and Health & Science. What started out as a relatively simple assignment comprising around 5 films snowballed into a huge project with multiple camera crews and editors, culminating in creating 47 films over a period of around 9 months (the above film is one such example).
The majority of the films were interview based, where a key subject matter expert from a company would be identified and nominated to provide some insight on the topic in question. This would be combined with supporting shots to illustrate the points being made, which was usually a combination of footage filmed in their place of work and occasional stock footage clips for anything not possible to film on the day. Several more films we not interview-based and were instead completed with voiceover, animation and supporting footage only.
The films are currently assisting millions of students in their studies and can all be viewed on the TEN website: https://www.technicaleducationnetworks.org.uk/
“The work from Unexplored Films is of the highest quality. They exceed our expectations and provide knowledgeable advice and guidance which has led to fantastic films being produced. The process is thorough, with thoughtful questions asked throughout each stage from developing a filming brief to the intricate editing details, which is really reassuring and is no surprise that our brief is not only met, but exceeded! Thank you Steve and Unexplored Films.” – Kelly, TEN Network
